At 5:09 a.m. on November 12, a steam whistle echoed across the night sky as a 55-carriage China-Europe freight train departed from Changsha International Railway Port. The train was loaded with construction machinery and parts, automobiles, small household appliances, daily use articles, and various other goods. The train will be reloaded at the Horgos Port in Xinjiang and is expected to arrive in Malaszewicze, Poland, in 15 days.?

According to statistics, the cargo value of China-Europe (Changsha) freight trains reached 16.747 billion CNY from January to October this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 33.12%.

Since its operation 10 years ago, the China-Europe (Changsha) freight train service has steadily expanded in scale. Currently, there are 14 regular routes, linking the city with nearly 30 countries and regions in Eurasia. In 2023, Changsha handled more than 1,000 China-Europe freight trains, hitting a record high and standing at the national forefront for five consecutive years.?

Zhu Haitao, general manager of the Commerce Department of Hunan Zhongnan International Land Port Co., Ltd., introduced that, the transportation cost of China-Europe freight trains is 1/5 of that of air transportation, while the transportation time is 1/4 of that of sea transportation. In addition, being less affected by environmental factors and highly stable, China-Europe freight trains enjoy advantages in meeting specific logistics needs, such as high added value and strong timeliness. As a result, more and more enterprises opt to transport their exports overseas via the freight trains.?

To ensure the steady development of the China-Europe freight train services, the Changsha Customs Authority has actively explored the pilot project of China-Kazakhstan and China-Belarus "Customs-Rail Link" and continued to promote the implementation of a supervision model featuring "rapid customs clearance for entry and exit by rail", shortening the overall customs clearance time of China-Europe freight trains by more than 30%.

The Changsha Customs Authority has established a cooperation mechanism with the customs authorities of Urumqi and Manzhouli ports to boost the development of China-Europe freight train services, thus facilitating the stable operation of freight train routes linking Changsha with Europe. Thanks to these efforts, the number of countries that have traded with Changsha has grown by 10 times year on year.

To address difficulties in packing non-standard products such as large-scale manufacturing equipment, as well as problems caused by large cargo damage and cargo difference, and high costs of labor, machinery and time, the authority has coordinated with departments of commerce, railway and others to launch customized trains for construction machinery and other goods. The move helps expand the export of "Hunan products".

Thematic presentations have been carried out to help enterprises enrich their source of goods for the return trip, with the categories of imported goods increasing from 21 to 388.
